For more than 90 years Méndez & Co., Inc. (“Méndez”) has achieved that the products of our suppliers be constantly at the top of this highly competitive market. We have reached this goal by combining technology, experience and a dynamic labor force with a strong vision of the future needs.

Our continuous dedication to improve through technology and innovation has carried us to be one of the 10 biggest local capital companies on the Island. Our success can be attributed to the strong business principles that our founders have legated us during four generations, and today enables our company to maintain its leadership in this market. Méndez, established in 1912 by Emiliano Méndez, started its operation by importing groceries, first necessity products, codfish and other articles. After the derogation of the Liquor Prohibition Law, the company incorporated hard liquors to its portfolio. In 1920 the operation principles were enhanced with the arrival of the members of the Álvarez family. They established a basic and simple philosophy: Only change what could be improved.

Today Méndez represents and distributes around 3,000 products in Puerto Rico. The principal brands that Méndez have had in its portfolio for many years are: Miller Brewing Co., Heineken, Johnnie Walker Scotch, Vodka Tanqueray, Gordons, Veuve Clicquot, Ragú, BeechNut and a variety of General Mills products.

Our corporate structure consists of two independent divisions. The Liquor Division includes hard liquor, beer, wines and non-alcoholics beverages. The Groceries Division includes dry, refrigerated and frozen products. Each division has Sales, Marketing and Operations areas, warehouse facilities and its own delivery carriers. Each one is directed by a Vice President, who has more than 10 years of experience. We have warehouses strategically located in San Juan, Añasco and Cataño to ensure coverage to the whole Island.

La Bodega de Méndez La Bodega de Méndez (“La Bodega”) is a complement to our marketing services since it offers an additional alternative of individualized service. The customers at La Bodega can choose among a variety of beautiful gifts which, complement the quality of the products distributed by Méndez.
